Title: ACAA: Topics in Advising Theory and Practice: Assessment in Academic Advising
Instructor: Chelsea Wesnofske, Pre-Health Advising Office
Location: via Zoom
Description
One of the best ways to improve our practice as advisors is to assess what we are doing (or not doing) as well as student experiences and needs, and then utilizing the data from assessment to make positive change. If you are unfamiliar with assessment this can feel daunting, but there are actually lots of easy (and in my mind fun!) ways to do assessment work. In this course we will discuss what assessment is and how it can be a powerful tool for academic advisors. We will discuss assessment methods and when assessment should be used. Additionally, we will practice with Qualtrics. I will show you how you can get a Qualtrics account, how to devise survey questions, and how to analyze the data you get from your survey responses, then we will brainstorm ways of how to best use the data. This course will explore assessment from a very basic level, so there is no need to feel intimidated!
