During a tornado warning, building occupants should seek shelter
on the lowest level of the building in an area devoid of windows and
high ceilings.
Tornado shelter areas
In the event of an issued tornado warning or recognition of any of the following signs must result in taking emergency tornado procedure.
IMPORTANT NOTE: At no time may you prevent a patron from leaving; you may only strongly suggest they follow the following protocol
Look for the following danger signs that indicate a Tornado:
Dark, often greenish sky
Large hail
A large, dark, low-lying cloud (particularly if rotating)
Loud roar, similar to a freight train
Any Athens-Clarke county wide tornado watch/warning
Assist patrons in moving to pre-designated shelter area such as:
Connecting ramp located between Pound weight room and wheeler gym
Area just outside of locker rooms
*Ensure patrons in main weight room, each of the 3 bathrooms, and wheeler gym are notified.
Suggest that patrons to take the following safety measures
Stay away from corners, windows, doors, and outside walls
Put as many walls as possible between you and the outside
Use your arms to protect your head and neck
After the conclusion of the storm, stay away from damaged buildings, power lines and trees; report any noticeable downed power lines to the University of Georgia police.
